November, 2020.
The Board of Trustees is deeply saddened to report the passing of one of our original Board members, Dick Hallowell, OSCS Retired. Dick was our original web designer, as well. He apparently picked up Covid while working on USS Midway, as a maintenance volunteer, an activity he loved.
Our deepest sympathies go out to Dick's family.
He was a good friend and shipmate.

The board of trustees regrets to report the loss of one our original members. Dave Krumlauf was a Plankowner on DLG 11, as an MM1. He retired as a warrant officer.
Dave passed on Sept. 24, 2022, from multiple blood issues, and had lived with Parkinsons for 21 years. He was a long time board member, until his health forced him to step down. He was a great friend and shipmate. Our sympathies go out to his wife Marion, who was always with him at reunions.
I want to welcome all Shipmates past and present to the newly upgraded USS Mahan Association webpage. I was stationed aboard the DDG-42 from November 1980 to July 1984 and was discharged as a Gunner’s Mate Missiles Second Class. For those of you who knew me while I served on the ship, you may be in disbelief I am involved in any type of Association activities. The truth is, it took me 20 years to appreciate both my time in the Navy and my time aboard the USS Mahan.
As a registered non-profit organization the USS Mahan Association manages to exist solely on donations and sales from the Ship’s Store. I invite you all to become familiar with the website, search for Shipmates, participate in the forums, and visit the Ship’s Store. All reunion information can be accessed in the Association website. It is my main goal to increase membership as well as membership attendance at the yearly Association Reunions.
I understand for those who served on more than one ship and for those who chose to pursue the Navy as a career, your time aboard the USS Mahan may have only been merely a stepping stone in your career. For those like me, the USS Mahan IS the Navy. So whether you were a 72, 42, 11, or a 364, a Snipe, Deck Ape, or a Twigit, we all have the common bond of serving on the USS Mahan.
